Holiday time is limited and that’s why less to plan, more to explore is the way to go!

Here are three of our favourite choices to help you get on the road quicker these school holidays. For more, make sure you head on over to the Ultimate Journey website, check out all the suggestions and be sure to add yours too!

1. Jozi to Limpopo

Distance from Jozi CBD – 382km (3 hours, 58 min)

For a quick road trip out of town that can be done in a day, Limpopo is a fantastic choice. Bella Bella offers some wonderful game viewing opportunities, and the province is well known for their large Baobab trees. The falls, river and surrounding forest area at Phiphidi are considered sacred. Two of these sites; the rock above the waterfall and the pool below are regarded as “most holy”.

2. Jozi to Tembe Elephant Park

Ultimate Journey Tip – Stop over in Harrismith for a quick bite to eat half way.

Durban is always a top choice when it comes to a quick road trip destination. Within only a few hours, you can look forward towarmer weather, sun, sand and sea! What’s not to love?

Tembe Elephant Park offers some fantastic kid-friendly activities. Besides meeting the Big Five or going on Safari Game Drives, kids (and adults) can enjoy Stories told in Dance Folklore.

3. Jozi to Matjiesfontein

This vintage settlement in Central Karoo has so many attractions. Even a historic cricket pitch, so be sure to pack those bats!

We’re sure the kids will love Matjiesfontein. For a Victorian style stay, book your accommodation at the Lord Milner Hotel. Stay in one of the rooms, or for an authentic family Victorian experience, the Old Museum Suite is a cottage that can sleep up to six people.

While you’re in the area, you can explore more of the Karoo, with further activities including; the Tankwa Karoo National Park, Valley of Desolation as well as the ostrich farming community of Oudtshoorn.
